Comida
Comida (Food). In any language it is usually a favorite topic of conversation. You can tell a lot about a culture from its food. We recently ate Brazillian food for the first time at a great little restaurant in San Diego, Brazil by the Bay. The food was awesome and it was a great way to practice our portuguese. We ate Prato Feito (Composed Plate) the components of Prato Feito can vary from restaurant to restaurant. Ours had chicken, rice, black beans and farofa. Farofa is a powedered flour seasoning mixture that you put on your food. It was yummy! What did Brazillian food tell me about their culture? Something I already knew, that they are a warm, loving culture. Prato Feito was definitely a comfort food dish, like having a good plate of Macaroni and Cheese and ham. If you live near a Brazillian restaurant I encourage you to try it!

Style for a Steal!
Estilo para roubar! (Style for a Steal) O que é isso? (What is that?) That is when you get a great deal! Who doesn't love a deal! Here in the U.S. it is President's Day Weekend. Many stores have sales going on right now, you might be able to go get that sweater you were eyeing for 25% off. Some great deals that I know that are going on this weekend:

A Primavera Esta No Ar!
Spring is my favorite time of year, the weather is gorgeous, the flowers are blooming. Spring is definitely in the air (a prmavera esta no ar) You can see all the great new Spring Fashions coming in to the stores. I went to Old Navy the other day and picked up this cute hot pink dress:
I plan to pair it with these two great new necklaces from Stella & Dot's Spring 2012 collection:

Ano Novo! Quais sao seus objectivos?
Boy time does sure go by fast! 2012, I can't believe it! Every year we all have goals that we try to reach. Quais sao seus objectivos? (What are your goals?) Here are mine:
1. Update this blog regularly! Sorry, I haven't posted in months, I promise you will get regular content from me and I won't go months at a time without posting!
2. Continue working on my portuguese!!! It is coming along, each day we understand more and more. This summer we will have a great test of our knowledge, we will be attending a 3 day, all day long convention, completely in Portuguese!!! I am nervous and excited all at the same time. I have never listened to Portuguese for that long of a period at a time, so it should be interesting. I think we will be O.K. :)
3. A goal many people have: losing a few pounds, I don't need to lose a whole lot, maybe 5 pounds, 10 at the most, a lot of my pants are a little tight and uncomfortable and I don't want to buy new ones because I do not want to be overweight, so I will be exercising more and trying to not eat as much junk food, french fries are my weakness!
4. Pay off a credit card! Need to get rid of some credit card debt, so I will be working hard to do that, one way I will be able to acheive that goal is goal #5 below:
5. Grow my Stella & Dot business! I have been with this company for 6 years and 2012 is the year I want to take it to new heights! January is an exciting month at Stella & Dot. Spring is always my favorite time of year, I love the bright colors, they always just make me happy, and from the sneak peeks of the new items coming, there is plenty of bright colors! Outubro e "Breast Cancer Awareness" Mes
Outubro e "Breast Cancer Awareness" Mes. (October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month) Nós todos sabemos alguém que foi diagnosticado com cancro da mama. (We all know somebody who has been diagnosed with breast cancer)
I personally have been through a breast cancer scare when I found a lump in my breast, thankfully it wasn't cancer, but I can imagine what it feels like to get the news that you do have cancer.

Oi!
Oi! (Hi!) It has been a little while since I have posted. I have been busy working on my Portuguese. It is coming along. Eu falo um poco de portugues. (I speak a little Portuguese). It has been a lot of fun learning. We know a group of people that are fluent that have been helping us learn. People that are from Brazil and Angola a country in Africa where they speak Portuguese.
If you are interested in learing a language, there is a great language program that works really well. It is called Pimsleur. It is a group of audio CDs that teach you how to speak the language, it is a lot cheaper than Rosetta Stone and very effective. You are supposed to listen to one 30 minute audio recording a day, during the recording they teach you how to say different phrases, they say them then you repeat them back. They say them during various times so that you remember the phrases. It is amazing how well it works. We bought several books on Portuguese from the bookstore that we are reading, but it is the phrases that I have heard on the audio recordings that I remember.

I love going to fashion shows. It is always so inspiring see how to wear clothes and accessories and what goes with each item. Many times they put together a combination that I would have never thought would have gone together and I end up wearing that combination all the time!
